I went to math class and I was doing my work. I hate math class so I always like to chat with my friends Alex and Sarah. I sat in my desk and began to write.
"I saw Marcel today, he was so cute! We were walking down the hall and he was telling me how he was working at 'Pizza Pizza' and we were arguing about how he had already told me that he worked there but I didn't know, so I said 'no you didn't tell me', it was cute and we laughed about it."
Alex crunched the note in her hand as the teacher went by so he didn't notice we were passing notes. When he passed, she finally wrote,
"You two are really starting to talk a lot now! It's really cute. Why don't you ask him out?"
She called my name, as I was about to grab the note. I stretched my arms back and grabbed the note off her desk. I unfolded it and read it.
I thought for a moment about what she said. Marcel had turned me down last year. I wrote him an e-mail telling him we should see a movie sometime, but he never really answered back to it, probably because he didn't want to hurt my feelings by telling me he didn't want to go with me.
After that, I didn't talk to him much. I kind of felt like I was bothering him like always wanting to hang around him and he was always avoiding me. But we finally started talking again.
I tapped my pencil on my head a few times before I thought about what I was going to write.
"I don't know guys, I mean last year he turned me down because he knew I liked him and I always wanted to be with him. If I ask him to the movies or something, he will think I was there because we are going to be making out or something, and I don't really want to do that, I just want to spend more time with him."
I slipped the note back onto their desks while they were working. I was hoping that no one was noticing I was doing it.
I mean even though everyone else in class passed notes back and forth, I still didn't want to be accused of doing it too, because I knew I shouldn't do it, but common! This was math class! The teacher never really taught anyways, just gave us work. I was finally allowed to talk to them so I turned around.
Sarah looked at me and said, "Tell Marcel that. Be like 'Hey Marcel, me and a couple friends are going to the movies on Saturday and I was wondering if you wanted to come'."
"Well he won't want to hang around my friends, he doesn't know them that well anyways!" I said as I slid back in my chair.
"Ask your friend Pestro, Piedro…"
"Pedro," I corrected her. Pedro was really named Peter, but I never really called him that. I liked the name Pedro ever since I saw the movie "The Basketball Diaries". Pedro wasn't even Spanish! He was Vietnamese. He was a really good friend of mine.
He said he would help me anytime because I once tried to hook him up with someone he liked but it never worked out, but he said he would still help me with Marcel.
"Yes, ask Pedro if he wants to go to the movies also then Marcel won't feel uneasy about being in the theatre with you alone, it will be just like you are going as friends, he won't suspect anything."
I was walking down the hall to my locker after 6th period. I was so nervous to ask him. I was really scared about knowing the results of what Marcel would think about going to the movies.
My palms were getting sweaty and my heart was pumping like crazy. I packed my bag and headed for his locker.
I asked Pedro if he wanted to go to the movies Saturday night and he said he would.
When I got there, Marcel was already done packing his stuff. He was talking to Shannon and they are just friends. I stood there beside him and he turned around and was surprised to see me. I looked at him and said 'hello'. We began walking down the hall.
He smiled and asked,
"So, what was your last class?"
I smiled and said, "French."
He started to make disgusted sounds "Ewww! French?!"
I looked at him, "What? I like French! I like learning new languages!"
"Well I do too, but French? Yuck!"
I smiled at him. "It's an easy subject!"
He smiled at me "No it's not."
"Yes it is!" I started to laugh.
"Okay fine," he said, "I'll take your word for it."
We proceeded to walk down the hall and it was nice. I really liked to walk with him. Made me feel so alive!
"I heard that English was the hardest subject language to learn." I said.
"Oh yes?" he said as he laughed.
I was so nervous. I finally remembered what I was there to do.
"Yes, me and Pedro…"
Marcel cut me off. He added something to the last thing we were talking about.
While he said it, I thought forget it. If I try to ask him again, he will really think that I like him and I am anxious. I just said nothing after that.
"Sorry you and Pedro?" he asked. I felt I had no choice. I was going to have to ask him anyways. Here it comes, rejection.
"Me and Pedro were thinking of going to the movies on Saturday night, and I was wondering if you wanted to tag along." I was so happy I had finished my sentence. But now I was scared.
"Sure, what are we seeing?"
I looked at him and smiled.
"I am not sure yet, but I was thinking maybe 'The Ring'?"
"That's sounds great! I would love too!"
"Good, then we will see each other there. I got to go, bye Marcel." And I headed for my bus.
I was in a really happy mood. It was really not a date but it was close enough. It's a start, I thought. I felt like I was going to start yelling out the windows on my way home "I'M GOING OUT WITH MARCEL MICHAELS!!!"
